The Read House

2023 Limited edition Straight Bourbon Whiskey & Straight Rye Whiskey

The relationship between J.W. Kelly and Samuel Read started over 150 years ago. Still, it was solidified in 1890 when J.W. Kelly purchased and began operating the bar and billiards room within Samuel Read’s grand dame hotel, The Read House.

All these years later, the partnership between these iconic businessmen of Chattanooga’s past has been rekindled with these limited edition bottles of bourbon and rye.

Both the bourbon and rye barrels were hand selected by The Read House in conjunction with our own staff, and both are bottled under their own label. These special edition, hand-numbered bottles are available at The Read House and in retail outlets in Chattanooga.

The Straight Double Oaked Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at 114.5 proof, and is hand bottled and double oaked. This bourbon has notes of white pepper, oak, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel and English toffee on the nose. The palate is a unique blend of honey, baking spice and nutmeg accented by hints of coffee and fine chocolate. The finish is long and viscous with a slow warming heat.

The Straight Rye Whiskey is bottled at 118 proof, and has an exciting mash of rye, malted barley, and corn. It has spicy and dry flavors. This rye has notes of molasses, burnt sugar, and toffee on the nose. The palette is a special blend of caramel, nougat and hot cinnamon candy. The finish is long, dry, and spicy.
