J.W. Kelly was a true innovator in American whiskey, shaping a legacy built on craftsmanship and vision. After making his home in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1866, Kelly set out to redefine what great whiskey could be—creating some of the finest spirits of his time.
Blending old-world pot distillation techniques with a distinctive mash bill of corn, malted rye, and barley, Kelly developed the signature character behind Old Milford. Carefully aged across five-, six-, and eight-year barrels, his whiskey delivered a richness and balance that set it apart.
Kelly’s commitment to quality quickly earned global recognition, establishing his brand as a benchmark for excellence from the American South to markets around the world.
Kelly founded Deep Springs Distillery in Chattanooga in 1866, laying the foundation for a far-reaching and influential enterprise. What began in whiskey quickly grew into a diverse portfolio, including tobacco, domestic and international wine and spirits imports, and extensive real estate ventures spanning multiple states.
