Very little is currently known about J.W. & Lizzie Kelly’s ancestry. What we do know has been pieced together from old newspaper articles, wedding announcements, obituaries, and old records. We thought we’d share here in our JWK archives.

 

James Watt Kelly

Born: February 25, 1844 in Waterford, Ireland
Died: March 10, 1907 in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Father: Henry Kelly (auctioneer)
Mother: currently unknown
Siblings: Had at least 1 sister who married a Scott. And possibly another sister who married a Smith. their names are currently unknown

Family in: Ireland, England, New Zealand, India, Canada

    • Father: Dr. John Watt: surgeon in British Army during the Crimean Campaign. Was JWK’s uncle and passed away at Kelly residence in Chattanooga 1/19/1890

 

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Jane Short Kelly

Born: September 29, 1846 Waterford, Ireland
Died: November 7, 1907 Chattanooga, Tennessee

Father: Thomas Short (Hotel Keeper)
Mother: Marion Short

Both were natives of Bristol, England

Siblings:

  • George G. Short - brother, lived in Montreal, Canada

  • Mrs. Louisa Short Longmire - sister, married John A. Longmire. Died in England June 23, 1906

Lizzie was the second youngest of six children, all of whom except the eldest died prior to 1907.

  • Louise Evelyn Maud Longmire - Executrix of EJK Estate (m. James K. Watt, 1911)

  • Violet (Longmire) Sweeney (m. M.A. Sweeney)
